Holy Word Count, Batman!

I had a MONSTER day today. Unfortunately, I'm not writing what I'm SUPPOSED to be writing (the second Ever After novella). Instead, I'm pounding away like a madwoman on what I shall hereafter have to refer to as my SuperSecret Sci-Fi/Futuristic (SSFF). This is a story idea I had years ago, but while I was traveling the other day, the first few chapters arrived in my head fully-formed like never before and THEY WON'T LEAVE ME ALONE.

So I'm writing the darned thing in a desperate attempt to get this future first person voice out of my head so I can write Jack and Callie's Regency story again. I just hope I get the voices out instead of making them louder and more insistent!

And yeah, that's all in one day. I'm stunned.

I did manage to get a bit of the Ever After novella written while I was flying to Memphis. Which means I'm not really behind...yet!

Good News/Bad News

The good news is, I have a contract (or will in a few days). The bad news is, I have a contract. With like, actual deadlines. Eep!

My "schedule" says I have to do 1,000 words per day five days per week to finish everything up within the time frame I'm aiming for. Obviously I haven't done that yet, but these two weekend days didn't count, so I'm actually a little "ahead."

Must.Get.Crackin'

Like Emma, I've got to buckle down and finish up this week. (Yolanda, could you send me your muse, please? She's FAST!)

There was no writing Friday through Sunday. (Friday we went to Disneyland, Saturday we hung out at the Science Center and went out to dinner, and Sunday was church followed by the Chargers game following by serious vegging--so I forgive myself.) But the kids went back to school today and although I must also do some paying work, it is absolutely essential that I finish the first draft of Carnally Yours by Sunday, November 4 so I can give myself a full month to get Unbridled ready for the Golden Heart.

So, here's the word meter:



I was up to 15,600, but then I realized the scene was in entirely the wrong point of view, so I scrapped it. Assuming my projected word count is correct (and it should be within a few thousand words one way or the other), this means I need to crank out roughly 2,200 words per day.

Yikes! I'm never that fast. But I have to try...

Oct 22-Dec 31 Goals

Okay, time to finish up some of this stuff that I've started right? I may need a push from someone from time to time if I start slacking.

Every week to the end of the year my goal is to write 4 chapters in rewrites plus 10K of my new mss. If I stick to this, by Dec 31st I will have 2 entirely finished series and 3 manuscripts completed.

My designated writing days are Sat, Sun, and Wed.

So let's see if I can stick to this schedule for couple of months.

Sucking Ass

This positive stuff is really hard. I got 2000 words for the weekend. That's 8 pages and sex scene number two (believe me it was badly needed). My goal is 100-125 pages for this novella but I feel like every scene is just taking SO LONG! So eventhough I've got 60 pages now, the story hasn't moved much. Maybe now that I'm past some of the sex, things can start trucking. Of course, then I have to figure out how to get more sex in--at least one.

I really need ten pages today.
